What is Slacklining?
Slacklining is like using a long narrow trampoline. Imagine a webbing tightrope, that instead of being rigidly taught, is dynamic, stretching and bouncing like a rubber band. The dynamic nature of the line allows for impressive tricks and stunts - check out the videos below.
Slacklines are fun for all ages and ability levels and are a great fitness tool for all sports. Whether your improving strength for ski racing, balance for freestyle skiing, composure for yoga, or you're just a big kid at heart and want to have fun.
Slacklines can be set up in minutes, just string the webbing strap between two solid anchor points (trees, buildings, solid posts, etc.). Slackline's tension can then be adjusted to suit your ability level. The webbing Slackline is flat, so it makes it easier to progress your balance skills (and tricks!) than on an ordinary rope.
Once you've mastered the basics of standing and walking on the Slackline, try some of the following:
walking backwards, turns, bouncy walk, catching a ball while balancing (concentration), sit and stand up (great for the thighs), yoga position (core balance and composure), sitting down, lying down, jump turns 180s/360's.
And if you really progress well and you're up for a challenge then what about trying these:
back flips landing on the line, ollies, tree plants, front flip dismount, back flip dismount, doing push-ups, tandem walking, the tandem pass, piggy-back rides across the line, and jumping from line-to-line, cartwheeling, hula hooping, juggling; yes it sounds mad, but all of this is possible!!
Whether practiced a few feet, or a few thousand from the ground, slackers all agree slackin' off helps to improve balance and concentration in all aspects of everyday life.
